{"id":151,"date":"2011-12-08T21:30:30","date_gmt":"2011-12-08T21:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.holycrossballycahill.com\/news\/?p=151"},"modified":"2011-12-06T23:42:20","modified_gmt":"2011-12-06T23:42:20","slug":"st-michaels-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.holycrossballycahill.com\/news\/st-michaels-news\/","title":{"rendered":"St. Michael&#8217;s News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Student Teachers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The student teachers from Hibernian College and Mary Immaculate College have been teaching in classes recently.\u00a0 We are delighted to have them on board and gaining experience here in Scoil Miche\u00e1l Naofa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Road Safety<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As part of a Road Safety initiative, Ms. McCullaghs Junior Infants are being give a Road Safety Kit, which includes a high viz vest along with other items to highlight and educate the children to be vigilant on these dark mornings and evenings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Text a Parent<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If your mobile number has changed recently please give your new number to Teresa in the school office.\u00a0 (0504) 43337<\/p>\n<p><strong>Christmas Carol Service<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Christmas Carol Service will take place in the Abbey on Wednesday 21<sup>st<\/sup> December at<\/p>\n<p>7.30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Team Hope<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Well done to 6<sup>th<\/sup> class who raised \u20ac574 on Friday last selling Butler Chocolate Bars for the Hope Foundation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Christmas Cards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Any day now we expect to take delivery of the lovely cards designed by the children.\u00a0 We are looking forward to seeing the finished product.\u00a0 After production costs the funds raised will be handed over to the P.T.A.\u00a0 Many thanks to Ms. Lowry for organising this initiative.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dissolving Boundaries<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ms. Clarkes 4<sup>th<\/sup> class are taking part in a North South schools based project that brings pupils together using technology.\u00a0 We are linked with Richmount Primary school in Portadown in Co. Armagh.\u00a0 They will collaborate on a number of projects throughout the year, e.g. online communication and video conferencing.\u00a0 Finally next spring both schools will get to meet for an adventure day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Book Launch<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our 5<sup>th<\/sup> and 6<sup>th<\/sup> class pupils were the recipients of much favourable comment following their performance at the book launch of The Awakening of the Abbey by Willie Hayes last week.\u00a0 Their singing and poetry readings set the tone for a lovely evening.\u00a0 We were very proud of their performance and their preparation by Ms. McCormack and Mr. McGrath.\u00a0 Una Crowe a former teaching colleague provided the musical accompaniment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Christmas Greetings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Children from all classes are involved in a global project which involves our sending a Christmas greeting to schools in Budapest, Hong Kong, America, Canada and Dublin.\u00a0 We are hoping in the coming weeks to receive greetings from schools in these areas.\u00a0 Our tracking boards can be viewed in the main corridor.\u00a0 Many thanks to Ms. O\u2019 Brien for co-ordinating the project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Student Teachers The student teachers from Hibernian College and Mary Immaculate College have been teaching in classes recently.\u00a0 We are delighted to have them on board and gaining experience here in Scoil Miche\u00e1l Naofa.
