As we slowly recover from closures, reduction of services, loss of local businesses\u00a0and emigration we realise the value of our small schools to our rural communities. The Ballycahill Community is no different. Over the past months they have been busy\u00a0enhancing the village and the environs for the upcoming Jubilee celebrations of the\u00a0school. Plans began a year ago to organise a day of celebration to commemorate the\u00a0Golden Jubilee of the \u2018New School\u2018 and the 180th anniversary of the establishment of the old school in the village. The committee has been meeting on a regular basis to gather\u00a0articles, interviews and photos for a book to mark the occasion. This is now nearing completion and the immediate plans for the Evening of Celebration are a priority.<br \/>\nThe event will begin with Mass in the local Church at 6pm on Saturday 11th June.<br \/>\nThe chief concelebrant will be Archbishop Kieran O\u2019Reilly. This will be followed by the<br \/>\nlaunch of the book, entertainment and refreshments in the Community Centre. There will<br \/>\nbe an exhibition of photographs from as early as 1914 to the present in the hall and we<br \/>\nhope that this event will renew old friendships and awaken many memories for the past<br \/>\npupils of both schools. Please mark the 11th June in your phone or diary and make this<br \/>\nevent a memorable occasion.
