Change to School Calendar<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>As you know the Referendum on the European Stability Treaty will take place on Thursday May 31st<\/sup>.\u00a0 This is the Thursday of the Bank Holiday weekend.\u00a0 We had scheduled to take Tuesday June 5th<\/sup> as a school holiday to pair with the Bank Holiday Monday.\u00a0 To simplify matters we will now take Friday June 1st<\/sup> as a school holiday instead.\u00a0 This means that the school will be closed on Thursday, Friday and Monday (May 31st<\/sup>-June 4th<\/sup>).\u00a0 School will reopen on Tuesday June 5th<\/sup> for a full school day.<\/p>\n

Classroom Extension<\/strong><\/p>\n

Work has begun on our extension and the contractors hope to be finished by August.\u00a0 While there will be some disruption to school life, the new classroom will continue to enhance the facilities of the school.<\/p>\n

Tesco Tokens\/Dearbh\u00e1in Tesco<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is Tesco Token time again.\u00a0 If you are shopping in Tesco please collect the tokens and send them into school.\u00a0 We can exchange the tokens for sports equipment to use in our P.E. programme.<\/p>\n

\"\"G\u00e1ird\u00edn na Scoile\/School Garden<\/strong><\/p>\n

This month each class will plant their plot with carrots, lettuce, turnip, beetroot and radish.\u00a0 Mr. McGrath and his budding gardeners will assist in the planting, growing and caring for the vegetables in each class plot.<\/p>\n

B\u00f3thar Walk<\/strong><\/p>\n

Junior Infants 1Km Sponsored Walk in support of B\u00f3thar in Templemore Park was a great success.\u00a0 They completed the 1Km in great style in their special t-shirts.\u00a0 Through your very generous support the walk raised the amazing amount of \u20ac792.05 on behalf of B\u00f3thar.\u00a0 Well done to Ms. McCullagh and the infants for this wonderful initiative.\u00a0 A representative from B\u00f3thar will visit our school to accept the cheque and thank Juniors for their fundraising initiative.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Coiste Scoil Ghlas \u2013 Green Schools Committee<\/strong><\/p>\n

On March 30th<\/sup> Se\u00e1n Hartigan from An Taisce came to the school to assess us for the Green Flag Award for Energy.\u00a0 He met with the committee and visited some of the classes.\u00a0\u00a0 He made a thorough examination of all the Green Flag projects going on in the school and our application.\u00a0 Having gone through all of this he was impressed and will be giving a favourable report back to An Taisce.\u00a0 We will hear in the coming weeks whether we were successful or not and will let everyone know.\u00a0 Well done to all the members of the Green Flag Committee and to Ms. McCullagh, the schools co-ordinator.<\/p>\n

C\u00f3ineart\u00fa\/Confirmation<\/strong><\/p>\n

The boys and girls from 5th<\/sup> and 6th<\/sup> class made their Confirmation on Wednesday 28th<\/sup> March and what a day we had.\u00a0 The children for Confirmation were very well prepared and made the day a very special occasion for all.\u00a0 Great credit is due to the boys and girls, their parents and their teachers Mr. McGrath and Ms. McCormack.\u00a0 The work they had done in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation here at school was wonderful and teachers\u2019 work with the children enabled them to fully appreciate the significance of the day.\u00a0 The School Choir were fantastic.\u00a0 They sang their hearts out accompanied by the organist, Kay Wallace.\u00a0 Well done to Mrs. Tuohy, Ms. Clarke, Ms. Doran and Ms. Lowry who trained and led the choir.<\/p>\n

A special word of thanks to school secretary Teresa for the lovely booklets and to Lucy and Elaine for the displays around the altar.<\/p>\n

First Holy Communion<\/strong><\/p>\n

First Confession for Second Class will take place next Wednesday 25th<\/sup> April at 7.30 p.m. in the Abbey.\u00a0 The children will make their First Holy Communion on Saturday 19th<\/sup> May at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n

Sp\u00f3rt ar Scoil \u2013 Sport in our School<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our school league continues each lunchtime.\u00a0 The Cumann na mBunscoil competitions begin this week.\u00a0 Good luck to the boys and girls who will represent Scoil Miche\u00e1l Naofa in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

A bus will bring the players to and from the match.\u00a0 At the recent Tipperary v Kilkenny Allianz Hurling League clash, Darragh Woods played for Tipperary in the half-time exhibition game.\u00a0 James Ryan will don the blue and gold and play in an exhibition game next Sunday in Semple Stadium at half time of the Allianz National Hurling League Semi-Finals.\u00a0 We await news of how Anna Gavin, Elaine Brennan, Jessica Crosse, Bryan O\u2019Mara and Darragh Woods fared at the recent Primary Game Selection Days.<\/p>\n

Soccer Coaching with James Scott for classes 1st<\/sup> to 3rd<\/sup> continues on Thursday mornings.\u00a0 Many thanks to Thomas Dwan who assists James every Thursday.<\/p>\n

Trail Walking<\/strong><\/p>\n

North Tipperary Sports Partnership are promoting a Mother and Daughter Trails Walking Programme for girls aged 8-12 years.\u00a0 Walks will be on various trails around Upperchurch.\u00a0 It is envisaged that girls would walk with a female adult (mother, sister, aunt etc.) on set routes.<\/p>\n

An Taisce have just informed us that our application for a 2nd<\/sup> Green Flag has been successful.\u00a0 The Green Schools Award Ceremony will be held in Athlone on the 23rd<\/sup> May.\u00a0 Ms. McCullagh and a representative group from our committee will travel to receive the Green Flag.\u00a0 We are delighted with this great news and we look forward to hoisting our latest flag at a ceremony in June.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
