History was made on this day 50 years ago (21st January 1969) when the Holycross Abbey Act First Stage was read in the Dáil by Jack Lynch T.D. This Act enabled the restoration of Holycross Abbey to be used for ecclesiastical purposes and it was passed without opposition. 21st January 1969 was also the 50th anniversary of the first meeting of Dáil Éireann in the Mansion House.
