In light of the current mass attendance records, we now find ourselves having to provide the same facilities with less projected income
One source of funds which we have not historically utilised is tax relief under the charitable donation scheme, which can apply to donations and collections made to the Parish. As a Parish we can claim tax back on contributions and collection monies received from PAYE or self-employed individuals. Did you know that donations of €250 or more could be worth an additional 31% to our Parish? This refund can be at no extra cost to you! Tax relief on €250 is €112.32 making your donation worth €362.32. And with the introduction of the new enduring tax certificate, once signed, the form will last for five years. We can maximise the benefit from donations that you, the parishioners, are already giving in weekend and special church collections and it does not involve asking for more.
Contributions need to be made in a manner that the contributor can be identified and the donation recorded. This will be achieved by using the envelopes made available through the parish. Each parishioner’s donations are treated in the utmost confidence. Weekly amounts are recorded using anonymous numbers. We cannot claim tax relief on the loose plate collection.
Apart from the weekly contributions made to the parish, payments made to Clergy Collections can also be included when they are made in an identifiable way, by using envelopes from the box of envelopes. Donations made by way of cheque, or standing order or annual payments can also be included as they are easily identifiable.
At the end of the year, we will issue receipts for donations given in these ways if they amount to €250 or more. In order to make a repayment claim, we must obtain either an Enduring Certificate or Annual Certificate from the donor and we are then eligible to reclaim back the tax the donor has paid on the amount given.
The parish will not receive any information from Revenue on individual’s circumstances. Payment from Revenue will be on the total tax back due to them without a breakdown of amounts. This scheme is purely for the benefit of parish funds. Any tax rebate received will be used for parish expenses only and will be shown as an item on the annual Income & Expenditure statement of the parish. We also ask for your assistance in distributing these boxes
