Michaelmas Day

Today, September 29th is Michaelmas Day, holy day of St. Michael the Archangel and traditionally a harvest festival of great celebration.

The monks of Holycross Abbey honoured St. Michael in a special way. From medieval times, Michaelmas Day was observed as a very special feast day in the monastic parish and is still observed as the parish patron day.

Pictures below show Canon Lynch, Dr. Morris & Paddy Dwyer and the children of the parish in the Michaelmas Day Parade.

Also shown is a newspaper clipping describing Michaelmas Day in 1914 in Holycross (thanks to Tom Burnell)
