Almost 20 years ago, a group of students from Ballycahill School carried out a project titled ‘My Favourite Building’. The building they chose was nearby Moyaliffe House. The project involved interviews, collecting photographs and documents and a visit to the House.
The research eventually took the form of a story of one of the students being given a guided tour of the house and grounds by the ghost of Winona Armstrong (the last of the Moyaliffe Armstrong family). The project was titled ‘Winona’s Beloved Mansion’ and includes poems, anecdotes and
historic photos. The project was documented, with only one copy understood to be in existence. This document came to light one month ago and is now being reprinted into booklet form with the approval of the Ballycahill School.
The reprinted booklets will be available at the Moyaliffe House and Gardens Open Days on Sunday 24th July and weekend 13th and 14th August. A €10.00 donation per copy is being asked with all proceeds donated to the Ballycahill School.
Mrs Lorna Vallely of Moyaliffe House said she thought the project was an absolute credit to the students as it is so well presented, researched and written with such a beautiful story to form the backdrop to the project.
