Children’s Easter Day Celebrations at Holycross Abbey

As the vibrant hues of spring blossomed across the landscape, the grounds of Holycross Abbey came alive with laughter and excitement, as families and friends gathered for an enchanting Easter egg celebration. Against the backdrop of centuries-old stone walls, children and adults alike with their easter baskets embarked on a journey of discovery and delight, weaving their way through history as they answered questions on the Abbey history, while collecting bountiful amounts of easter eggs.

Organised by the Holycross Abbey Jubilee team the Easter egg celebrations promised and delivered on an adventure filled with excitement and wonder. “It’s wonderful to see so many families coming together to celebrate Easter in such a beautiful setting. Thank you, to the organisers for putting on such a wonderful event” remarked Kim Nolan who had brought her daughter Mila to participate in the celebrations.

Indeed, the egg hunt served as a celebration of community and togetherness, as neighbours and strangers alike joined forces in the spirit of goodwill. As the children gathered their eggs,
smiles were shared and bonds were strengthened and memories were made, weaving a tapestry of joy and laughter that will linger long after the Easter Day Egg celebration.

For many participants, the egg hunt also provided a unique opportunity to connect with the rich history and heritage of the Abbey itself, as they traversed the same paths once walked by
generations of monks who called this sacred place home.

As the day drew to a close and the eggs collected, participants gathered together for the final event in hopeful anticipation of winning the Abbey Teddy bear and the basket of chocolate eggs. As the winning tickets were drawn with jubilant cheers, one of the winners young Mollie Wall, collected her prize as the precious chocolate treasures were triumphantly added to her growing collection of eggs. With the sun still shining which cast a warm glow over the abbey grounds, families bid farewell to a memorable Easter at Holycross Abbey. With hearts full of happiness and baskets filled with chocolate, they departed, already looking forward to the adventures that awaited them next year. For in this tranquil corner of County Tipperary, amidst the whispers of history and the laughter of children, Easter will always be a time of magic and wonder.
